Good politics is at the service of peace

1. “Peace be to this house!”

In sending his disciples forth on mission, Jesus told them: “Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace shall rest upon him; but if not, it shall return to you” (Lk 10:5-6).

Bringing peace is central to the mission of Christ’s disciples. That peace is offered to all those men and women who long for peace amid the tragedies and violence that mark human history.[1]The “house” of which Jesus speaks is every family, community, country and continent, in all their diversity and history. It is first and foremost each individual person, without distinction or discrimination. But it is also our “common home”: the world in which God has placed us and which we are called to care for and cultivate….

…It may be helpful to recall the “Beatitudes of the Politician”, proposed by Vietnamese Cardinal François-Xavier Nguy?n Vãn Thu?n, a faithful witness to the Gospel who died in 2002:

Blessed be the politician with a lofty sense and deep understanding of his role.

Blessed be the politician who personally exemplifies credibility.

Blessed be the politician who works for the common good and not his or her own interest.

Blessed be the politician who remains consistent.

Blessed be the politician who works for unity.

Blessed be the politician who works to accomplish radical change.

Blessed be the politician who is capable of listening.

Blessed be the politician who is without fear…..

…The politics of peace, conscious of and deeply concerned for every situation of human vulnerability, can always draw inspiration from the Magnificat, the hymn that Mary, the Mother of Christ the Saviour and Queen of Peace, sang in the name of all mankind: “He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm; he has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly; …for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children forever” (Lk 1:50-55)

In the New Year, receive Mary’s love and help, Pope Francis says:

Today, Pope Francis continued, is a day “to be amazed by the Mother of God. God appears as a little child, held in the arms of a woman who feeds her Creator… That is the mystery we celebrate today, which gives rise to boundless amazement: God has become one with humanity forever.” (Pope Francis Homily, Jan. 1, 2019, Vatican City)

The Month Dedicated
the Holy Name of Jesus

Jesus died and rose for the sake of all people. No one can trademark or copyright Jesus’ name. Jesus is the Son of God and son of Mary. Everything that exists was created in and through the Son of God (see Colossians 1:15-20). The Name of Jesus is debased if any Christian uses it as justification for berating non-Christians. Jesus reminds us that because we are all related to him we are, therefore, all related to one another.

.How blessed His Name! All peoples in all nations can see the Face of God and adore Him. Strive to be meek and humble of heart, and then you shall meet Jesus in the faces of your peers and many other peoples of all nations…. I pray that you will have my eyes to adore my Son, and my Heart to love Him as I love Him, and my humility to follow Him at all costs. Be strong and filled with faith, for my adorable Son is yours…. I bless you in His most glorious, omnipotent and adorable Name - a Name to which all shall bow on bended knee….” (Our Lady of Emmitsburg, Private 01-04-09)

Feast of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton - January 4

Wife, mother, teacher, widow, convert and religious foundress
First American-born saint

“Take every day as a ring which you must engrave,

adorn, and embellish with your actions,
to be offered up in the evening at the altar of God.”

(St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 1774-1821)

Prayer by Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton

Lord Jesus, Who was born for us in a stable, lived for us a life of pain and sorrow, and died for us upon a cross; say for us in the hour of death, Father, forgive, and to Your Mother, Behold your child. Say to us, this day you shall be with Me in paradise. Dear Savior, leave us not, forsake us not. We thirst for You, Fountain of Living Water. Our days pass quickly along, soon all will be consummated for us. To Your hands we commend our spirits, now and forever. Amen.

Novena to Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton
(Novenas are prayed once a day for nine days)

Oh, God our Father,
glorify here upon earth your servant,
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton,
by manifesting the power of her intercession
through the favor I now implore.
(state your intention)
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Your Son, who lives and reigns with You
and the Holy Spirit,
one God,
forever and ever.

What has Our Lord said on Mother Seton’s feast?

“…I am here to warn My people, as a watchman warns the troops before battle! Take heed, all ye who live deceitfully! You who are bad and know Me, but do not turn to good, it would be better for you had you never known of my goodness. You who have good in you, but have begun to live deceitfully and dishonestly, it would be better had you not known Me. For those who are good and do deceitful acts will be judged as if they were not righteous. The good deeds accredited to them will not be acknowledged! But those, who are righteous and holy in Me, shall receive their reward without punishment!...” (JOM, Vol II, #34, 01-04-90, The Love of Jesus)

Our Lady of Emmitsburg speaks of this humble place of Emmitsburg and offers an invitation to her clergy and religious:

"Thank God above, little children, for His great love for you and for picking this most beautiful, humble place as the Center of My Immaculate Heart; and from here the unveiling of my Son’s Mercy will commence. Thank the two instrumental Saints of love, St. Vincent DePaul and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Thank the Saints which followed in their footsteps…. I invite you, my priests, my daughters and all my ministers, to join me in preparation for the glorious unveiling of my Son’s Mercy." (OLOE Public 04-27-00)

Feast of St. John Neumann - January 5

Bohemian Redemptorist Missionary, Bishop of Philadelphia

“Everyone who breathes, high and low, educated and ignorant, young and old, man and woman, has a mission, has a work. We are not sent into this world for nothing; we are not born at random; we are not here, that we may go to bed at night and get up in the morning, toil for our bread, eat and drink, laugh and joke, sin when we have a mind, and reform when we are tired of sinning, rear a family and die. God sees every one of us; He creates every soul, …for a purpose. He needs, He deigns to need every one of us. He has an end for each of us; we are all equal in His sight, and we are placed in our different ranks and stations, not to get what we can out of them for ourselves, but to labor in them for Him. As Christ has worked, we too have but to labor in them for Him. As Christ has His work, we too have ours; as He rejoiced to do his work, we must rejoice in ours also.” (St. John Neumann, 1811-1860)

Brief biography and Prayer...

What has Our Lord in His Lessons said on His American Bishop's feast?

“…My Kingdom is your kingdom; and if your life is now united with mine, you are living now in My Kingdom! It is a choice that all My children have. If you keep yourself pure and consecrate your life to Me, you will be protected, dwell in My Kingdom, and share in My Glory…. This is the time to bring My children home…. When My people love each other, they allow Me to love them! Living in My Kingdom is allowing love to flow like a river from one to another…. Please come! The gates to My Kingdom have been unlatched!” (JOM, Vol I, #26, 01-05-89, Kingdom)

I AM Your Jesus of Mercy:

What has Our Lady of Emmitsburg said on St. John Neumann's feast?

“…I also give you a blessing from my most beloved saint (St. John Neumann), so that he can come to your aid as I come to your aid, and as all the saints are rising to this occasion at the Center of my Immaculate Heart. There are also many people who wish to move closer. They want to know that God is with them and that the Eucharistic Reign shall unfold most brilliantly and valiantly, and most evidently with the enlightenment of the soul in the minds and hearts of all mankind….” (OLOE Public 01-05-04)

Feast of the Epiphany - January 6, 2019

Prayer to the Holy Magi

“O Holy Magi, who regarded neither the severity of the season, nor the inconveniences of the journey that you might find the newborn Messiah; obtain for us the grace not to allow ourselves to be discouraged by any of the difficulties which may meet us on the way of salvation. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.”  (Our Lady of Emmitsburg, Dec. 26, 1996)

My Gift to the Christchild...

In the Responsorial Hymn on this Solemnity of the Epiphany, we sing:

“Lord, every nation on earth will adore you.”
(Ps 72:11)

On this Feast of the Epiphany, let us ponder the words and sentiments of Sacred Scripture, Our Lady of Emmitsburg and two of her beloved saints, Faustina and Therese of Lisieux, as it relates to the Adorable Child:

Feast of St. André Bessette - January 6th

First Canadian-born, male saint, brother & St. Joseph devotee (1845-1937)

“I am only a man, just like you…. I will pray for you.”
(St. André Bessette)

Alfred Bessette became a Holy Cross brother in Montreal, Canada, in the late 19th century. Through his kindness and caring, many souls experienced healing and renewal, most especially through his devotion to St. Joseph. In a devotional prayer to Blessed André, we pray:

“Blessed Brother André, your devotion to St. Joseph is an inspiration to us. You gave your life selflessly to bring the message of his life to others. Pray that we may learn from St. Joseph, and from you, what it is like to care for Jesus and do his work in the world. Amen

St. André is noted for his great devotion to St. Joseph and his trust in his powerful intercession. Join us in this 9-day Novena Prayer that Never Fails, as we implore the aid of both St. Joseph and St. André for our families, our Church, our nation and our world:

Novena Prayer that Never Fails...

What has Our Lord in His Lessons said on the feast of St. André Bessette?

“…I carry the Wounds in My Most Sacred Heart from all the division and wicked ways so many have chosen to pursue…. I want My people to know that the amount of love they render to their neighbor is the amount of love they have for Me. Ponder My Words and recognize your position with your neighbor. Evaluate your self-love which consists of conditions, and strive to love as I am Love. Practice! Purity of heart rises from unconditional service and charity. ….” (JOM, Vol I, #4, 01-06-95, Love of God is Love of Neighbor)

I AM Your Jesus of Mercy:
January 6, 1995...

What has Our Lady of Emmitsburg said on the feast of St. André?

“…At all costs, never leave my Son. Never walk away from Him. All the evil that affects you through tribulations is not vindictive from God. His Love and Mercy is protecting you. But you know that the time is nearing; the time is nearing where things will get far worse because so few are taking this to heart and unifying in the Truth….” (OLOE Private 01-06-00)

“…This is a time to remove the obstacles preventing you from having an intimate union with God…. This is a rejuvenating time, but a time of cleansing from the ways of your ‘self’. This is a time of contemplation, as joy awaits each one of you as you are graced to seek union with God. There are many areas in your lives which block you from living His Love fully. Jesus... desires each of you to discover the meaning behind your life….” (OLOE Public 01-06-00)

“When you invoke St. Joseph, you don’t have to say much.
Say, 'If you were in my place, St. Joseph, what would you do?
Well, pray for this on my behalf.”

Words of God the Father - January 8, 2006

Eleven years ago today God our Father warned that there are consequences for all that He sees and hears as he patiently waits on humanity:

“…I, as God your Father, mercifully waiting, gaze upon humanity….

Truly there is a lack of wisdom and a lack of humility on your part for not being able to see with the eyes of the heart the gift that has been handed to you….

Yet, as a Merciful Father, I listen and I will intervene….

I wait; I watch; I listen; and My Judgment is a judgment of Justice. You, children of humanity, know not the day, the hour nor the time, not the place nor the event. Perhaps then, it is time for you to amend your lives and to be enlightened, as if today was your last. Perhaps, it is time for you to love, as if today was your last opportunity to love; and perhaps it is time for you to be grateful, as if today was your last chance to give praise and thanksgiving to Me for your life.

Yes, just perhaps today! Peace.”

Daily Consecration to the Eternal Father

For the greater glory of God and for the salvation of all, I consecrate myself to You, O' Eternal Father, as one of Your faithful remnant. Behold, I come to do Your Will. With the help of Your Grace, I will keep Your Commandments. I will love and reverence You with all my heart, soul, mind and strength. I will love my neighbor as You love me.

I make this Consecration through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Your beloved Son, Jesus.

O' Eternal Father, send forth Your Holy Spirit to restore my/our broken image and likeness of You. Send forth also Your entire Heavenly Court, all the celestial choirs of Your angels and all Your Saints, to aid me/us in my/our struggle against all the forces of evil in this present darkness. Amen.

(Adapted from the Father of All Mankind Apostolate)

The Lord's Prayer

How many of us have said the “Our Father” with so little thought, so little reverence, and so little fruitfulness? However, when we are open to the Holy Spirit within us and pray from the heart, look at what can happen:"

Our Father, (“Our” Father—not “My” Father - all of God’s children of all races, all colors & all creeds)

Our Father, (Abba, “Daddy” God)

Who art in Heaven, (and Who art in me)

Hallowed be Thy Name. (Holy be Thy Name, praised be Thy Name, thanks be to Thy Most Holy Name)

Thy Kingdom come. (now - on earth and in me)

Thy Will be done, (now - on earth and in me)

on earth as it is in Heaven. (at the Throne of God, with the Trinity, Our Lady and all the Angels and Saints)

Give us this day our daily bread. (the Bread of your Divine Will, the Bread of Life in the Eucharist, and the bread we need to eat to sustain our bodies)

And forgive us our trespasses(forgive us our sins, our imperfections and our hesitancies in the face of temptation)

As we forgive those (or as we choose not to forgive those) who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,(for we are weak, we are worthless, we are wretched & we are nothing)

But deliver us from evil.(for it is only through your grace, not by our works alone nor our merit that we can escape eternal damnation)

Amen. (So I hope. So be it)

Prayer to Save America

During these critical times in U.S. history as well as in salvation history, the Foundation will be including this prayer on all e-newsletters.

O merciful God, we cry to Thee for pardon and for mercy.
We are an unbelieving and perverse generation.
We are disobedient, disloyal and ungrateful to Thee.
We have excluded Thee from our homes, our schools, our places of business.
We are no longer worthy to be called Thy children.
Merciful Father, spare America!
Forgive us!
Save us from the scourge we deserve.
Teach us Thy law, and move our wills to serve Thee today and every day.
Merciful God, please spare America!
O Immaculate Heart of Mary,
Pray for us!
