The Significance of the June 1, 2008 Message of Our Lady of Emmitsburg

It is always nice to be back in Emmitsburg, which is so historically and geographically Marian with its various shrines and Setonian history. Now, in view of the ominous message given to the world by Our Lady of Emmitsburg on June 1, 2008, my talk today will include a mesh of cosmological science and religion, all in my attempt to interpret the biblical prophecies of the end times (not the end of the world) and Our Lady’s latest messages.

Now, the pharisees and scribes of old refused to believe that God had appeared amongst them and indeed they persecuted Jesus unto death. In like manner, the pharisees and scribes of today are refusing to believe that the Mother of Jesus is appearing in Emmitsburg and is persecuting her messenger. And so, nothing has changed. Like Son, like Mother. But they, too, will have their reward. It is an awesome responsibility to thwart the plan of God for His Mother. As St. Grignon De Montfort wrote in his classic book True Devotion To Mary: “Let not that man presume to look for the mercy of God who offends His holy Mother.”

In the meantime, there is certainly no one on Earth, I repeat, no one who could shake my certitude that Our Lady of Emmitsburg is appearing here in spite of certain self-appointed gurus and some other pseudo-intellectuals, some of whom aggrandize themselves on the web.

But there can be no conflict between science and religion as they both deal with truth. So said, top scientists from the United States and France, who were convened by the Catholic world’s most experienced Mariological investigator, Fr. Rene Laurentin of France, have proven without doubt that Gianna Talone-Sullivan, for whatever reasons she was chosen, is in ecstasy during her apparitions. As I have said before, it is impossible to fake ecstasy when thoroughly tested by scientific methods. In fact, I was present at one of the examinations. But I ask you, would any false visionary consent to scientific inquiry?

I have in my possession the report from the Commission of Inquiry, which I believe should be made available to all the faithful. Unfortunately, it betrays a surprising ignorance of Mariology. But I also have the assessment of Gianna from the pen of Fr. Laurentin. His closing remarks read: “Gianna is disconnected from the exterior world by the ecstasy. She does not sleep or dream and is not in an epileptic state. There is nothing pathological.  In short, I have neglected nothing to arrive at a scientific and spiritual discernment… It is a terrible defamation for excellent Christians, better than others, when the Church’s apparent judgment seems to defame them. It happens frequently.”

Now, we all know the story of Juan Diego 1531 and I will not repeat it today. Following his experiences and that of the bishop of Guadalupe, it became a tale of the greatest mass conversion from Aztec paganism to Christianity in the history of the New World and today out of 103 million Mexicans, 90 percent are Catholic and most have portraits of Our Lady of Guadalupe in their homes.

Over 300 years later, the France of 1870-71 was a country that bothered little about matters of the spirit and the churches were empty. However, Pontmain, a village of about 500 people, was a fortunate exception to the rule of religious indifference. Pontmain’s people were farmers and devout believers. When the Franco-Prussian War began in July 1870, thirty-eight young men from Pontmain had been conscripted and were serving in the defense of their homeland. On January 17, 1871, the Prussians (Germans) were closing in on Laval, the capital of the region in which little Pontmain was situated, when about 6 o’clock in the evening and about twenty feet above the rooftops, two children saw a lady. She wore a blue dress studded with golden stars. Soon after, the stars on her gown seemed to multiply so fast that she appeared to be clothed in gold rather than navy blue.

The vision slowly vanished at about 9 o’clock in the evening after requesting the people of Pontmain to continue praying. On the day after the vision, the relentless advance of the Prussian troops suddenly stopped and withdrew without fighting. Ten days later on January 28, the armistice was signed, the war was over and the 38 soldiers from Pontmain returned home unscathed. They were protected.

Forty five years later, this same “lady,” who appeared in Pontmain as Our Lady of Hope, appeared in Fatima on May 13, 1917 to three little children during the height of World War I. Significantly, there was a golden star on the hem of her white gown. The explanation for this is to be found in the Book of Esther. It tells the story of the great and courageous Jewish Queen of Persia, who saved her people from a mass annihilation which was chosen by lot to take place on the 13th day of the month. Our Lady of Fatima wore a star on her gown. It was her calling card. The word for “Star” is “Esther.” In short, she came to Fatima as the “Esther of the New Testament.” But whereas the mission of the Old Testament’s Esther was to save her Jewish people from annihilation, this Esther of the New Testament is the Mother of all Nations (not of a single nation) and she has been trying for years to save the children of the world from annihilation. That is why she appeared in Fatima on the 13th day of each month until October.

On July 13, she said to the children: “I come from heaven…The war is going to end soon but if people will not stop offending God, another and more terrible war will begin during the reign of Pius XI. When you see a night illuminated by an unknown light, know that it is the great sign from God that He is going to punish the world by means of war, famine and persecution of the Church...”

It was, however, on October 13, 1917 that she performed the historically well-known and authenticated “miracle of the sun” (our nearest star), which was seen to be falling towards Earth. We now know that the sun, like all other stars, is a huge hydrogen bomb which has been exploding continuously for the past five billion years. The apocalyptic message and warning of that event on October 13 is now clear. It was also on that day that she chose to say: I am the Lady of the Rosary” (a weapon in spiritual warfare more powerful than a hydrogen bomb).

Twenty one years later on the night of January 25, 1938, one of the privileged visionaries (Sr. Lucia) stood at her convent window in Tuy, Portugal, and saw an ominous red glow that lit the entire sky. Looking at the lights she immediately knew that it was the great sign foretold by “the lady from heaven” on July 13, 1917 that the punishment of the world was at hand. Notably, at that time Venus and the Sun were forming a conjunction with Jupiter, and Mars was forming a conjunction with Saturn. But didn’t Our Lady of Emmitsburg talk about the alignment of the planets in her message of June 1, 2008? She said: “Even your governments and the Church authorities already have knowledge of the stars aligning and its implications upon you.” In short, in some cases the alignment of planets could be significant.

This light which Sr. Lucia saw was seen throughout Europe and certain parts of Africa and Asia. It was an Aurora Borealis and covered an area of 500,000 sq km. Typically, the aurora appears either as a diffuse glow or as “curtains” extending in the east-west direction. It is caused by the interaction between the solar wind, Earth’s magnetic field and the upper atmosphere. Millions of people saw it and feared the world was on fire and was about to end. As prophesied, 45 days after the aurora, World War II did start during the reign of Pius XI. It was indeed “a more terrible war” than World War I. After the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, World War II suddenly ended on August 15, 1945. It was the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Queen of Peace!

Twenty eight years later in 1973, the lady from heaven appeared in Akita, Japan and spoke to Sr. Agnes Sasagawa, a humble nun of the Order of the Handmaids of the Eucharist, through the medium of a wooden statue in the convent. Significantly, it was a replica of the image of the Lady of all Nations, as she appeared towards the end of World War II in Amsterdam on March 25, 1945 to the visionary Ida Peerdeman.

It was on Saturday October 13, 1973, significantly, the anniversary day of the great miracle of the sun in Fatima, that Our Lady spoke these words to Sr. Sasagawa: My dear daughter, listen to what I have to say to you. As I told you, if men to not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the Flood, such as one will never have seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead. The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by my Son. Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops and the priests.

“The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against other bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres…, churches and altars sacked; the Church will be filled with those who accept compromise and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord. The demon will be especially implacable against souls consecrated to God. The thought of the loss of so many souls is the cause of my sadness. If sins increase in number and gravity, there will no longer be pardon for them…” Later on, she added:  I alone will be able to save you from the calamities which approach. Those who place their confidence in me will be saved.”

But what she warned in Akita, Japan in 1973 is no different from what she has said recently in Emmitsburg on June 1, 2008. And Akita is an officially- approved apparition site! Why then the criticism and skepticism about the public warning of June 1, 2008? Is it therefore that Americans only believe in foreign cars and foreign apparitions?

Following the Akita warning in 1973, 28 years later in 2001, “a fire” did fall from the sky from two planes, which crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. It was a mini-fire, “birth pangs,” and a prelude of things to come on a much larger scale. It was the beginning of a new type of war in the 21st century. Indeed, once more, on August 29, 1945, two weeks after the end of World War II, the Lady of all Nations in Amsterdam did prophesy to Ida Peerdeman: “There will be a new, yet strange war in the distant future, which will cause terrible havoc.” She was referring to international terrorism.

Now, a nuclear World War III has been a constant concern of and threat to mankind ever since Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but there are probably very few who are aware that on July 12, 1982, Our Lady of Medjugorje said: “The third world war will not take place.” But also of very great concern to us today is the dramatic increases in natural disasters over the years and which are occurring all over the world. But this was also prophesied by Our Lady of all Nations in Amsterdam, when she said on August 15, 1951: “Disasters will come. There will be many catastrophes of nature” and previously on December 26, 1947: “Disasters will overtake the world – from North to South, from South to West and from West to East.”

The Indian Ocean earthquake, for example, was an underseas earthquake that occurred on December 26, 2004. It triggered a series of devastating tsunamis, killing more than 225,000 people in eleven countries and inundating coastal communities with waves up to 100 feet high. With a magnitude of 9.1 and 9.3, it is the second largest earthquake ever recorded on a seismograph. It also had the longest duration (between 8.4 and 10 minutes) and the energy released by it was equivalent to 550 million times that of the atomic bomb which fell on Hiroshima in 1945. This massive release of energy slightly altered the Earth’s rotation and caused Earth to wobble and tilt 1 inch on its axis.

But a major cataclysm with much more devastative consequences could be caused by an impact or impacts by massive meteors or comets. Now, on June 1, 2008, Our Lady of Emmitsburg warned: “After a while you will see a time when there is another body in orbit around your solar system, coming between Earth and the Sun, and leading to tremendous devastation.”  So said, I also do suspect that many of us are not aware that on March 20, 1953, Our Lady, the Mother of all Nations, said in Amsterdam after the end of World War II: “There are meteors. Watch out for them. There will be calamities; there will be cataclysms.”  And so, it seems that the warning in Akita that “fire will fall from the sky” refers to a large meteor which will leave its normal orbit in the asteroid belt and come between the sun and Earth. Recall also that meteors are called “fireballs.”

Indeed, it has happened before with the dinosaurs, and sooner or later a large meteor or comet will strike Earth, the consequences of which you can be sure would be catastrophic. If such a strike occurred in mid-ocean, multiple tsunamis in the 100-foot range would cause worldwide damage. If the strike occurred on land, the blast would cause tons upon tons of ash and rock to be thrown into the stratosphere where it would act to reduce the solar radiation and threaten the planet with darkness for a number of days. In fact, the blend of mischief that meteors and comets bring — fire, darkness, rending asunder, floods and tsunamis — is well-known. So said, it is interesting that almost all of the shrines where Our Lady has appeared were on mounts much higher than sea level!

It is also of interest that as late as 1835, a lecturer at The Royal Institute in London concluded that the orbital inclination and eccentricities of comets (and meteors) do “not depend upon physical laws but upon the will of the Creator,” and as Carl Sagan once said: “Certainly, it does seem strange that a purely haphazard event could possibly destroy the Earth.” Apropos this, in 1850 Thomas Dick (1774-1857), known for his work on astronomy and philosophy, combining science and Christianity, once wrote: “Believing that every object and every event in the universe is arranged and directed by an omnipotent Contriver, we must admit that when the Almighty formed the wondrous plan of creation, ‘foreseeing the end and the beginning,’ he arranged the periods and the velocities of comets in such a manner that, although occasionally crossing the planetary orbits, they should not pass these orbits at a time when the planets were in their immediate vicinity. And should such an event ever occur, we may rest assured that it is in perfect accordance with the plan and the will of the Creator, and that it is on the whole subservient to the happiness and order of the intelligent universe, and intended by the Divine government.” This is an interesting “theology.” In fact, Edmund Halley, who has a comet named after him, also proposed that the biblical Flood was probably produced by a comet!

Do governments know about the threat of asteroids and comets as Our Lady of Emmitsburg said on June 1, 2008? They certainly do. On 7 April 2004, Dr. Michael D. Griffin, Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), in a testimony to the United States Senate Subcommittee on Science, Technology and Space Hearing on Near Earth Objects, said: “Thank you for giving me this opportunity to comment on the greatest natural threat to the long-term survivability of mankind, an asteroid impact with Earth. The effects of an impact are so catastrophic that it is essential to prepare a defense against such an occurrence… Impacts with diameters greater than 1km could result in worldwide damage and the possible elimination of the human race…”

Many mystics have also warned that the sin of the world today is worse than at the time of Noah and it is prophesied that there will be a major cataclysm like the one in Noah’s time, except that it will be “the fire next time.” As Peter prophesied: “By water that world was then destroyed; it was overwhelmed by the deluge. The present heavens and earth are reserved by God’s word for fire; they are kept for the day of judgment, the day when godless men would be destroyed” (2 Peter 3:7).

And in Mark 13:8-25: “Nation will rise against nation, one kingdom against another. There would be famine and pestilence and earthquakes in many places… If a man is on the roof terrace, he must not come down or enter his house to get anything out of it…Those times will be more distressful than any between God’s work of creation and now, and for all time to come. Indeed, had the Lord not shortened the period, not a person would be saved. But for the sake of those he has chosen, he has shortened the days. Immediately after the stress of that period, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not shed her light, stars will fall from the sky, and the hosts of heaven will be shaken loose.”

For what it is worth, my interpretation of this is that the sun and moon will be darkened because of the large quantities of dust and smoke as a result of a major cataclysm from a huge meteor or comet, and that “stars falling from the sky” refer to meteor showers (“falling stars”), which frequently accompany comets and meteors.

The world, especially the United States, is now also in the throes of a major economic depression and collapse, which would probably be worse that the Great Depression of the late 1920s. But didn’t Our Lady of all Nations also warn us about this in her apparitions in Amsterdam?: “Great powers will crumble and political and economic conflicts will break out” (March 28, 1945) and “There are economic and natural disasters that will strike the world (November 15, 1951).

Now, “the lady from heaven” has frequently associated herself with a celestial body or phenomenon. These were seen, for example, in Guadalupe in 1531 when she was standing on the crescent Moon and adorned with a constellation of stars on her gown; in 1871 in Pontmain, with numerous moving stars on her dress; in Fatima with the miracle of the Sun in 1917; in 1938 with an Aurora Borealis; and in 1981 in Medjugorje, where she appeared as the Woman of the Apocalypse and also as the Queen of Peace, wearing a crown of twelve stars (Rev.12:1).

The motherly fore-warning to the world by Our Lady of Emmitsburg given on June 1, 2008 also said: “When you see two suns on the horizon, you must know that this is a time of change, a time of this new beginning about which I have spoken to you before. After you see the two suns, there is only a short time before you will see a tremendous change in the weather. After this, as you know, there are more changes to come.”

In a recent telephone conversation with the celebrated astronomer Mike Brown, the co-discoverer of planet Eris, the new 10th planet, and who has been listed by Time magazine as among the hundred most influential people, he told me how “two suns” may be seen on the horizon and said that it could be due to a supernova in our galaxy. A supernova is an explosive event of tremendous energy output generated by the death and gravitational collapse of a massive star (one many times larger than our Sun).

He recalled that in 203 BC, “two suns” were seen in the sky. There were intervals of daylight during the night. Another appearance of “two suns” was in 185 AD. Chinese astronomers recorded the appearance of a bright star like a sun in the sky and observed that it took about eight months to fade from the sky. Yet another such phenomenon was observed on July 4, 1054 AD. It remained visible in daylight for 23 days and was visible in the night sky for 653 days. It eventually faded from view on April 17,1056 AD. This explosion appeared in the constellation of Taurus.

As to seeing it “on the horizon,” it is because it would have been difficult to see the supernova in conjunction with the sun while it was high and bright in the sky and it is only possible to see it when the Sun is very low on the horizon in the evening or at dawn when there would seem to be “two suns,” one possibly larger than the other.

Now, Noah and his family were the only ones saved in the ark, which God had instructed him to build (Genesis 6:15-16).  This three-storey ark has been likened to Mary and her link with the Holy Trinity. She is the Mother of the Son, but she is also the Daughter of the Father and the Bride of the Holy Spirit. As such she has become for Christians a locus of encounter with the three Divine Persons. And as Noah received his children into the ark and they were saved, so, too, will all those who seek shelter in the living ark, Mary, be saved.

As God the Father recently said to us through Gianna: “How blessed you are that the most Holy Trinity has given to you the gift of this fairest Queen in this time of your need, to strengthen and to guide you, to point the way and outline a safe path, to preserve you from harm, and to protect you from evil. In all of history throughout the ages past, never has there been a Queen pure as she! Esther led the way; Mary fulfilled the way.”

She is compared to Noah’s ark but she is also the Ark of the Covenant or more precisely, the living Ark of the Mediator of the New Covenant. The ancient Ark of the Covenant contained the two tablets of the Law, but at Mary’s conception this living Ark immediately contained within her womb, not the tablets of the Law but the Lawgiver Himself. And just also as the ancient Ark of the Covenant contained a ciborium with some of the miraculous manna which fell from heaven to feed the Israelites, Mary contained in her womb, not the miraculous manna, which fed them on their journey to the Promised Land and yet they died, but the true Bread of Life, which give us everlasting life.

Interestingly, in my research for my book Mary Ark of the Covenant, among other places, I traveled to Ethiopia and Israel. In the latter country, I visited the site where stands the Basilica of Mary, Ark of the Covenant. It is built on a hill in Kiriath Jearim just 25 miles outside of Jerusalem, where the ancient Ark of the Covenant had remained in the house of Abinadab for about 50 years all through the reign of Samuel and Saul (Samuel 6:19-21). There I saw on the steeple of the church, a concrete statue of the ancient Ark of the Covenant, flanked at the top by two winged angels at both ends, and between the wings stood the Blessed Virgin Mary holding the Child Jesus in her left arm. The Child, in turn, was holding up the Eucharist between His right thumb and index finger. Is this an indication of the Eucharistic reign of the Child Jesus?

Now in June, 1982 she said in Medjugorje: “These apparitions are the last in the world (in this era).” So said, I also believe that just as she first appeared in Medjugorje holding the Child Jesus in her arm, so will she appear with Him in her last apparition in this era, wherever that may be. It will be Mary as the Theotokos, the Mother and Child.

I do accept that we are deserved of a “punishment” from God and that we are in the last days of this era (not the end of the world). In fact, hasn’t God been very patient with us considering the progressive degeneration in the world especially over the past two centuries? However, as the Blessed Virgin has often said, she has been holding back the hand of Justice of her Son for years, but I believe that we are now close to the end of the period of His Mercy since only very few have responded to her call. That is why is she is crying all over the world. But the next era will be one of peace and joy. It will be, as Fr. W. Faber wrote in his Preface to the book True Devotion to Mary by De Montfort : “It will be the age of Mary.”

However, I also strongly believe that, because of the special and holy grounds on Earth trodden by Our Lord and the places where He chose to send His mother to appear in the world, these places will be protected. These will be the safe havens and sanctuaries. So said, my Marian research over the past 25 years leads me to believe that among the many havens will be certain parts of Israel, Guadalupe in Mexico, La Salette, the Rue du Bac, Lourdes and Pontmain in France, Banneux and Beauraing in Belgium, Garabandal in Spain, an area in Amsterdam, Holland, Medjugorje in Croatia, Betania in Venezuela, and parts of Maryland in North America, especially Emmitsburg and its environs. It will be a Marian world. It will be the reign of the Two Hearts.

As she said to Juan Diego in the primogenitus Marian shrine of the New World: “Know for certain, my dearest and youngest son, that I am the perfect and perpetual Virgin Mary, Mother of the true God, through whom everything lives, the Lord of all things, who is Master of creation and of Heaven and Earth, I ardently desire that a temple be built here for me where I will show and offer all my love, my compassion, my help, and my protection to the people. I am your merciful Mother, Mother of all who live united in this land, and of all mankind, of all those who love me, of those who cry to me, of those who seek me, of those who have confidence in me. Here I will hear their weeping and their sorrow, and will remedy and alleviate their sufferings, their necessities and their misfortunes… Am I not here, I, who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not the cause of your joy? Are you not in the folds of my mantle? In the crossing of my arms? What more do you need?”

But let us not forget that she also said in Akita: “The only help left for you is the Rosary and the Sign (the Eucharist) left by my Son.”  These are your guarantees of protection. Meanwhile, as Our Lady of Emmitsburg said: “There is no time for fear. There is only time for change.” Time, however, is very short, “but as for that day or hour, nobody knows it, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son; no one but the Father” (Mark 13:32).

Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray us.
