 Why Prepare?  The Promises

(Compiled by Michael T. Sullivan, MD)

“Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord!”

(Isaiah 40:1)

“Know how serious this plan is!”

(Our Lady of Emmitsburg, OLOE)

God’s Plan did not begin in Bethlehem, in Jerusalem, in Rome, in the United States or in Emmitsburg, Maryland.  It has unfolded over several thousand years in a series of promises or covenants made with humanity and the consequences thereof when these covenants have been broken by humanity.  The driving force behind each of these has been God’s unfathomable Love and Mercy for mankind.  It has never been God’s primary intention that we obey Him out of fear of the consequences, but in anticipation of the eternal reward.

Part A

“I will be your God, and you shall be My people.”

(Jer 7:23)

Salvation History and OLD TESTAMENT Promises

“God created man in His image; in the divine image He created him;

male and female He created them.”

(Gen 1:27)

God exists!

“There once was a time when humanity was corrupted and was then brought back to the Father through the one Salvific Act of my Son.  That was the corruption that began with Adam and Eve, but was later turned into a new tomorrow through my ‘fiat’ and the grace of the Holy Trinity which was bestowed upon humanity.”  (Private OLOE, May 30, 2005)

God to Satan:  “I will put enmity between you and the woman,

and between your offspring and hers.  She shall crush your head,

while you strike at her heel.”

(Gen 3:15)

Satan does exist!

“The time is coming when every man and woman on this earth will know that God exists.”  (Private OLOE, August 27, 1992)

Many of Our Lady of Emmitsburg’s prophesies and teachings through Gianna Talone Sullivan have been based on Old Testament prophesies and events:

God to Noah:  “I am about to bring the flood on the earth

to destroy everywhere all creatures….

But with you I will establish My covenant;

you and your sons, your wife and your sons’ wives shall go into the ark.”

(Gen 6:17-18)

“Never again will I doom the earth because of man….

nor will I again strike down all living beings.”

(Gen 8:21)

“It is just as it was thousands of years ago before the big flood, just as in the time of Noah.  People are drinking and enjoying each other’s company and social events. (Private OLOE, Dec. 3, 2005)  God the Father has promised not to totally destroy the world again.  However, in this day, you see the same scenario, people merrily going their way.  (Private OLOE, April 30, 2006)  God never said that the world would become extinct.  He promised against that in Noah’s time.  However, He has warned of change.”  (Private OLOE, Sept 11, 2008)

So too has God the Father in His “Words” through Gianna further explained and compared the time of Noah to these current times in which we live:

“I patiently waited for Noah to prepare, although everyone around him except a few did not listen to him.  They were making merry in many ways, in the form of adultery and other sweet enticements.  Then that one great day fell upon the people on earth and wiped out their existence.  From that time to this time, ‘What change has there been?’   (GTF, July 8, 2006)  They mocked him, persecuted him and alienated him and his family…..because He never diverted in the midst of his sorrow from the truth that was to come.”

(GTF, June 21, 2009)

God to Abraham:  “Look up at the sky and count the stars, if you can.

Just so, shall your descendent be.”

(Gen 15:5)

“Know that you are children, all ‘children of Abraham.’  So  many children, far greater than the number of the stars in the sky!”  (GTF, Dec 8, 2006)

“The Providence of God would have it that in the time of need and when the end times come, God will come to your aid as He promised the patriarch Abraham that many descendents would be gathered through the seed of faith.”  (Public OLOE, Aug 3, 2008)

Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die.

God will surely take care of you and lead you out of this land,

to the land that He promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.’’

(Gen 50:24)

“Have confidence in what God has promised, especially as you look to the past, to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses and Joshua.  They all, they all trusted in God and in God’s promise.”  ( Private OLOE, April 10, 2006)

God to Moses:  “I know well what they are suffering.

Therefore I have come down to rescue them from the hands of the Egyptians

and to lead them out of that land into a good and spacious land,

a land flowing with milk and honey….

Come now!  I will send you to Pharaoh…”

(Ex 3: 7-10)

Our Lord, God the Father, as well as Our Lady of Emmitsburg have all contributed through Gianna to our understanding of the promises of ages past and their similarities to the times in which we are now living:

“I have kept my promise from past ages of leading My people out from exile to the land of milk and honey.  I have protected My people, clothed them, fed them, and I have walked among them.”  (JOM, Vol V, #6, 1995)

“Moses came and preached the Good News, taking My Words of the Ten Commandments, and urging and assisting the children of humanity to reflect and to change their ways and to return back to their ‘Abba’.”  (GTF July 8, 2006)

“Moses, for forty years, was searching, finding and looking in a desert.  Not too many people liked him.  We do not have forty years because an era is ending. However, you must be patient and persist, be vigilant and continue to prod, and be in the forefront, visible with all that God has enlightened you to give.”

(Private OLOE, March 21, 2008)

In a very unusual sequence of events in January of 2006, first the Christ Child and then Our Lady of Emmitsburg spoke of the role of Joshua in salvation history, and both likened the role of Gianna, and possibly others throughout the world, to that of Joshua:

“As Moses brought the people to the Jordan River, to the Promised Land into which he could not cross, it was there that I invited Joshua to lead and to bring the people into My Promised Land.  There I spoke, ‘Be brave and steadfast, for I am with you.’  (Dt. 31:23)  Here now you have my most devout and beloved child (Gianna). She, as Joshua, has been commissioned to move forward and to bring humanity into this next phase, a new Promised Land.” (Child Jesus, Jan 21, 2006)

“You may not see or understand the meaning of leading the children or of the new Joshua coming to lead, because the blinders are on your eyes.  This is so that you may remain focused, simple-hearted and humble, and so that you may be the recipient of the ‘Words’ of God the Father and those of my little Son.”  (Private OLOE, January 23, 2006)

Many of the Books of the Old Testament reveal Messianic prophecies, some of which may have applied to more immediate events, but often in a fuller sense to the Christ Who was to come:

“But you, Bethlehem-Ephrathah, too small to be among the clans of Judah,

from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel,

whose origin is from of old, from ancient times….

when she who is to give birth has borne…

He shall stand firm and shepherd his flock by the strength of the Lord….

for His greatness shall reach to the ends of the earth; he shall be peace.”
(Mic 5: 1-4)

Our Lord in His Lessons through Gianna spoke of this Kingdom of Peace and His “new Israel” to come at the end of this era:

“How I shall reproduce the land and populate My children!  All shall sing praises and be united in comfort and peace.  O’ how this fruitful season is now at hand, and all who live in Me through the powerful gift of fidelity shall be the new lambs of God for all eternity!  For nation shall rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, but My Israel (the Church) will stand united at the end as the only one nation, one Kingdom of Peace.  My Israel is all My beloved people throughout this entire world who claim My Father’s zeal of faith and love through My Divinity!  That will be My new Israel, and all are invited to live in the City of Hope through their fidelity in My Father.”  (JOM, Vol II, #26. 1989)

There are other Messianic prophecies in the Book of Psalms (King David, 1000 BC) and Book of Isaiah (750 BC):

“May he rule from sea to sea…All kings shall pay him homage,

all nations shall serve him….In him shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed,

all the nations shall proclaim his happiness.”

 (Ps 72: 8-17)

“But a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse…

The spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him…

He shall judge the poor with justice and decide aright for the land’s afflicted…

Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb,

and the leopard shall lie down with the kid….

The baby shall play by the cobra’s den…

For the earth shall be filled with knowledge of the Lord as water covers the sea.”

(Is 11: 1-9)

“There was in him no stately bearing to make us look at him…

He was spurned and avoided by men, a man of suffering, accustomed to infirmity.   And we held him in no esteem.

Yet it was our infirmities that he bore, our sufferings that he endured….

Upon him was that chastisement that makes us whole, by his stripes we were healed. Oppressed and condemned, he was taken away…though he had done no wrong nor spoken any falsehood….If he gives his life as an offering for sin,

he shall see his descendants in a long life,

and the Will of the Lord shall be accomplished through him….

Because he surrendered himself to death, and was counted among the wicked,

he shall take away the sins of many and win pardon for their offenses.”

(Is 53: 4-12)

“Enmity between you and the woman!”  Who was that “woman” to be?  Who came before her?  What would be her role? Following the end of the Babylonian captivity, many Jews still lived in Persia.  Due to an evil plot, the Jewish people were on the verge of extinction in Persia (475 BC).  Queen Esther, however, came forth. Some might say that humanity faces that same threat now, 2500 years later:

Queen Esther replied,

“If I have found favor with you, O king, and if it pleases your majesty,

I ask that my life be spared and I beg that you spare the lives of my people.

For my people and I have been delivered to destruction….”

King Ahasuerus then to Queen Esther and her father Mordecai,

“Now that I have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him,

you in turn may write in the king’s name what you see fit concerning the Jews

and seal the letter with the royal signet ring.”

(Est 7: 1-8)

Scripture scholars throughout history have viewed Queen Esther and her role among the Jewish people as a prefigurement of Our Blessed Mother and her role among all of humanity:

“Remember Esther, yes indeed.  The star at the bottom of her garment was worn even at Fatima, and Esther prevented the annihilation of her children.  So I too shall protect not only this country, but also all the children who come forth and desire to serve my Son.”  (Private OLOE, Dec. 19, 2002)

On two occasions, God the Father Himself spoke of the likeness of each, but then clearly pointed out those areas where Our Lady stands above all others:

“Look at your Queen! She is the Empress of the World!...There is not so august a Princess, most pure and elevated even higher than Esther, to the level of Empress.  As she desires and as she implores on your behalf for your salvation, so We listen and are moved.”  (GTF, April 8, 2006) “How blessed you are that the Most Holy Trinity has given to you the gift of this fairest Queen in this time of your need, to strengthen and to guide you, to point the way, to outline a safe path, to preserve you from harm, and to protect you from evil.  In all of history throughout ages past, never has there been a Queen as pure as she!  Esther led the way; Mary fulfilled the way!”  (GTF, Oct 8, 2008)

Salvation History and NEW TESTAMENT Promises

“I am baptizing you with water, for repentance,

but the one who is coming after me is mightier than I.

I am not worthy to carry his sandals.

He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

(Mt. 3:11)

On only one occasion did God the Father speak of John the Baptist, the last of the Old Testament prophets:

“If you followed the Word of the Gospel of My Son there would be no need for any prophet or seer.  There has never been so great a prophet or seer or leader as my beloved John the Baptist, no other above him except for My Son.  But humanity has not responded as requested.  Humanity is not living My Words and praying as My beloved Mary has asked.”  (GTF, July 8, 2006)

Then Jesus began his public ministry.  When He preached and taught and embraced the life of a suffering servant, very few, even those close to Him understood Who He was, what He meant, what He came to do, and most amazingly, how He would obediently choose to do it.

“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger,

and whoever believes in me will never thirst….For this is the Will of my Father,

that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life,

and I shall raise him on the last day.”

(Jn 6:35,40)

“Whoever believes in me will do the works that I do,

and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.”

(Jn 14: 12)

“You bring Me glory when you live My Gospel words.  You bring Me glory when you love one another.  You bring Me glory when you are faithful and obedient.  You bring Me glory through simple prayers of thanksgiving….I, Who share My Glory, bring you glory by glorifying you in Me and in My Father!”  (JOM, Vol I, #24, Dec. 29, 1988)

“They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming

when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God.

They will do this because they have not known either the Father or Me.”

(Jn 16: 2-3)

Our Lady of Emmitsburg offers her consolation and understanding most often during the difficult times:

“All my life I endured pain.  My Son endured humiliation, persecution and ridicule.  However, at the end, things turned on those who were truly the ones that labeled Him ‘evil’.  He was pure, and those who condemned Him were the ones who carried the spirit of death.”  (Private OLOE, July 7, 2003)

“Whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you…ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.”

(Jn 16:23-24)

“It is a wonderful joy to know you are a child of God and are close to the Father.  Do not keep your distance.  Ask and you shall receive.”  (Public OLOE, June 8, 1995)

“I find joy in all who are dedicated to My Truth at all costs and who are consecrated to My Most Sacred Heart and My Mother’s Immaculate Heart.  The Two Hearts shall reign in victory and the day will come forth when all the world will know of the Triumph of the Two Hearts….Find joy in the Father.  He is Love and the Source of Peace.  I give you My Peace for I give to you all that He has given to Me.”  (JOM, Vol V, #12, May 31, 1995)

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name,

there am I in the midst of them.”

(Mt. 18: 20)

In speaking to Gianna about prayer and religion, Our Lord in His Lessons taught:

“I am your Lord God, and I hear all forms of prayer.  It is not your form of worship, but your heart that I want.  Whether you are Jew or Gentile, you are because of Me, Who Am!”  (JOM, Vol I, #7, Nov. 9, 1988)

“Those who pray together in the family as partners of love will march triumphantly into the era of peace.  Whether you are two or twenty, pray together in your families.”  (Public OLOE, March 9, 2000)

“For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the Truth.  Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.”

(Jn 18: 37)

Yes, He was born into the world as a Child, and central to the message of Our Lady of Emmitsburg is the role of the Child Jesus in God’s Plan of salvation.  Many might think that Jesus was a ‘child’ for a few short years, but once that was past, salvation consisted of what was accomplished only by the Crucified Savior.  Our Lady shares a broader understanding:

“All the world must know the Christ Child.  All the world must know that the Two are One, both the Child and the Salvific Savior Who was crucified.  What began with the Wood of the Cradle ended with the Wood of the Cross….The separation is not possible.  All must know the Truth, that the One Who came forth with His first breath of Life to save humanity, died with his last breath of Life so that humanity could live in eternity.”  (Private OLOE, May 16, 2003)  “From the Wood of the Cradle to the Wood of the Cross, from the inception of His Infancy to His Death and Resurrection and completion of His victory for your eternal life, My Son in His Most Precious Body and Blood belongs with you and in you as Savior and as Child.”  (Private OLOE, Aug 23, 2003)

“I thirst.”

(Jn 19: 28)

“So many are hungry and thirsty.  As my Son thirsts, they thirst, not to the same degree, for vanity and pride lives in many of their lives.  However, they are invited to look to the True Source of Thirst, so that their thirsts may be quenched by the Divinity of the Holy Trinity.”  (Private OLOE, February 19, 2003)  “As My Son thirsts, you quench His Thirst by your every prayer.”  (Private OLOE, May 22, 2004)  In this time of grace, you all can rise to quench the Thirst of my Son by living in unity, by surrendering to His Holy Will, and by not looking to yourselves but to those most in need.”  (Private OLOE, March 27, 2005)

“It will come to pass in the last days

that I will pour out a portion of my spirit upon all flesh.

Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions….

And I will work wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below:

blood fire, and a cloud of smoke.”

(Acts 2: 17-19)

“No one has to believe!  It has been written, ‘Let things be.  If it is not from God, it will destroy itself.  But if it is from God, then you may find yourselves fighting against God Himself.’ (Acts 5:38-39)…No one has to do any of these things if they desire not to fulfill what God has planned….It is very wise to be prudent and cautious not to blaspheme the Holy Spirit and the gifts given by the Holy Spirit.  I am a gift to you!”  (Private OLOE, August 6, 2005)

“For this reason He is mediator of a new covenant; since a death has taken place for deliverance from transgressions under the first covenant, those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance.”

(Heb 9: 15)

“I desire you to be at peace, to focus on Jesus and to know that all things will come to pass, especially in the time that will give my Son the glory which you too will inherit.”  (Private OLOE, August 25, 2004)

“Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord!”

(Isaiah 40:1)

“Know how serious this plan is!”

(Our Lady of Emmitsburg, OLOE)
