Part II of a 9 Part Series

 Not just Spiritually, but Practically

(Compiled by Michael T. Sullivan, MD)

“Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord!”

(Isaiah 40:1)

“Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord!”

(Mt 3:2, Mk 1:3, Lk 3:4)

“So do not worry and say, ‘What are we to eat?’

or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear?’….

Your Heavenly Father knows that you need them all….

Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness,

and all these things will be given you besides.

Do not worry about tomorrow;

tomorrow will take care of itself.”

 (Mt 6:31-34)

Many would use these words from Our Lord to rationalize that there is no need to prepare practically or materially, and they might even attack or criticize others who would think anything differently.

‘“Five loaves and two fish are all we have.’

Then He said, ‘Bring them here to Me.’

And He ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass.

Taking the five loaves and the two fish,

and looking up to Heaven, He said the blessing,

broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples,

who in turn gave them to the crowds.  They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the fragments left over—

twelve wicker baskets full.”

(Mt. 14: 17-20)

Our Lord could have indeed in His Almighty power created from nothing the food for the over 5000 pilgrims.  Yet, He chose to gather what had been accumulated by human hands, and then multiply and distribute it.

“While they were eating, Jesus took the bread,

said the blessing, broke it,

and giving it to His disciples said,

‘Take and eat; this is My Body.’

Then He took a cup (of wine), gave thanks,

and gave it to them saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you,

for this is My Blood of the covenant,

which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.’”

(Mt 26: 26-28)

Thus, at the Last Supper Our Lord took the bread and the wine, the fruits which the earth has given and human hands have made, and changed them into His Most Sacred Body and Blood.  Moreover, He then confined His Body & Blood, Soul & Divinity, in this apparent piece of bread and wine for our consumption and adoration until the end of the world.

It would seem that at some very important times in history, even though He did not need human input, Our Lord chose to use the fruits of human work to accomplish His mission.

In His Lessons to the world through Gianna Talone Sullivan in May, 1989, Jesus said:

“There is no need to know how you can prepare.  If you pray, all shall be given to you in accordance with Our wishes, and the Holy Spirit shall guide you….Be at peace.  Relax in My Spirit.  Do not attempt to control.”  (JOM, Vol I, #54, May 31, 1989)

It would be difficult for anyone to adequately and appropriately prepare—practically or materially—unless that same person had been actively preparing spiritually.  For without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, one’s preparation would most likely be fruitless and aimless.  Spiritual preparedness makes way for all other forms of preparedness.

Moreover, not every person has the same ability, means or even need for the practical and material preparation.  Our Lady has said  both in Akita, Japan, in 1973, and in Emmitsburg, Maryland, in June, 2008, that many people will die, both the good and the bad.  As events are unfolding in the world right now, it is easy to see how some people may have to flee their homes in route to some temporary or permanent refuge; and others may not have to flee, but rather may have to be prepared to receive and help those who come in need.  It would only make sense that the Holy Spirit might be leading each of these groups or individuals differently.  That is why it is so important that each of us strive to sharpen our discernment of God’s Will through our own prayer lives so as to be attuned to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

In June, 2002, Our Lady of Emmitsburg shared with her children that:

“As your Mother I am here to tell you that we are in a transitional phase when there will be many people, droves of people, coming to the Center of my Immaculate Heart….You shall tend to all these needs….So be prepared; and know that you need to BE PREPARED, not only spiritually, but also physically, medically, emotionally and psychologically.  All of these elements need to be drawn into one, drawn into the Sacred Heart of Jesus, where you are well protected and where His grace shall abound in all Mercy and all Love.”  (Private OLOE, June 17, 2002)

When Our Lady has spoken about preparation—all types of preparation—she has always emphasized that need to be able to help others:

“God is patient.  As He has been patient with you, so too He is patient with humanity….Because He loves so unconditionally, He wants everyone to be with Him.  Some things are inevitable and will unfold because God the Father has revealed this, but more important now is that forever you need to be prepared to help those who are in need of assistance.”  (Private OLOE, Dec. 19, 2007)

“Continue to prepare as you are, and to be ready even in the midst of how the world continues to live…because the time will come, as it has often been spoken before, for things to unfold!  When chaos unfolds, those people who are not ready because they are preoccupied in living day to day as if nothing will occur, will need help.  It will be chaotic!”  (Private OLOE, Jan. 27, 2008)

Later in 2008 Our Lady of Emmitsburg made an analogy between the way she is currently advising her children to prepare and the way Mother Teresa of Calcutta prepared:

“You must be a family; because at a certain time, you will not have the luxury of transportation, even locally to other places….As a family you should privately join in preparation, not only for others, but primarily to set something aside for yourselves.  Then you can give to others, just as my most beloved Teresa of Calcutta.  She always filled her shelves first, then any left over went to others.”  (Private OLOE, May 21, 2008)

In Our Lady of Emmitsburg’s June 1, 2008, message to the world, She predicted as a sign of future events to come the appearance of the “two suns” on the horizon.  Then on September 11, 2008—“9/11”—a date forever etched in American history, she said:

“Yes indeed, never has there been revealed the time nor the hour, but I am allowed to give you the sign of the warning.  Foolish would you be not to at least embed it in your heart, so that when you see it—whenever that time comes—you would have already been prepared.  For by that time, it would be too swift a change.”  (Private OLOE, Sept. 11, 2008)

Over the years Our Lady has given messages of hope and spiritual preparation, but many people neither listened nor cared.  It would seem that indifference and arrogance may have served only to highlight and expose much human ignorance.  However, through difficulties and sufferings all people will learn the Truth because God’s Love is unconditional and will never leave. Our faith teaches us that His grace will be there for all who desire to participate in His Life.

But as Prof. Courtenay Bartholomew, MD, has written and substantiated in his new book, The End of This Era*, something is about to change.  The world cannot enter the “Era of Peace” that was prophesied in the Book of Revelation and then again at Fatima unless there are many changes in the world and changes in mankind’s relationship with its Creator and with the Truth.  It would appear that humanity is about to embark on a new way of life.  People need to know this and be prepared!

Can you imagine if technology were wiped out or seriously impaired by some of the very plausible solar events in the not too distant future?  No communications, no tools with which to communicate!  What will each of us do when we see the “meteors” in the sky as predicted to Ida Pearlman by Our Lady of All Nations in Amsterdam on March 20, 1953, or the “fire falling from the sky wiping out a great part of humanity” as predicted by Our Lady in Akita to Sr. Agnes Sasagawa on Oct. 13, 1973? (both apparitions approved by the Roman Catholic Church)  Could we ever be prepared for these types of devastating events—spiritually or practically?  Having responded to Our Lady’s call, are we now not responsible to notify and to educate those who know nothing—namely, a major portion of this world?

Whether that practical preparation be for a day, for a week, for a month or even longer, if we have the faith, the knowledge and the means, does it not make sense to pray and ask God for the wisdom to discern what each of us should be doing?  Would it not be presumption on our part to just blindly and abruptly reject this notion, saying, “I don’t have to prepare; God will take care of me!”  If we prayerfully prepare, within our own means and with reason, do we not trust that God not only can but will multiply our efforts and outdo us in generosity?

Faith is obviously at the core and at the very essence of trusting God; but because of fear and despair in many people, many may desire to know more. So for them, here are some simple guidelines for practical and material preparation—food and water supplies (both storage and purification techniques), some emergency travel and safety supplies, simple first aid and personal hygiene supplies and personal prescription medications, some basic camping equipment, a family emergency meeting and/or evacuation plan.  All of these may seem to some people to serve as a mere security blanket, but actually are prudent for households in almost any natural disaster preparedness plan.  Obviously, there are many situations which are outside the realm of effective human preparation; however, through Divine intervention, any plan can be brought to its completion.  Ultimately, God is in control, and He will send His angels to guide us.  There is, however, no harm in being prepared to help others, first preparing our shelves for ourselves so we can then give in abundance to others.

In closing, Our Lady of Emmitsburg, in an August, 2006 message, stated what is even more apparent now nearly, 8 years later, in 2014:

“There could be no greater ‘sign’ than now.  It is all around you; and yet, so many people do not see it as the ‘sign of the times.’  If they asked for and received a sign, they would not believe it, for they cannot even notice what is happening at this moment….The world is passing….Prepare for this Kingdom coming, for the new Era of Peace.  This Era of Peace is preceded by confusion and controversy, battles, pain and the other bowls of purification, which the Angel, whose sword I can no longer hold back, will release at God’s command….Both good people and bad people will not survive what’s coming.  The good are protected within my Heart.  Those who choose not to walk with the Lord are those who risk their very souls.”  (Private OLOE, Aug. 12, 2006)

So do not fear!  Do not panic!  Pray!  Pray!  Pray!

Prepare in whatever Spirit-filled way that God leads you!

But Prepare!
