 The Fruits of Preparation

UNITY—but, Unity in TRUTH

(Compiled by Michael T. Sullivan, MD)

“Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord!”

(Isaiah 40:1)

“Do you think that I have come to establish peace on earth?

No, I tell you, but rather division.  From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three;

a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father,

a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother….”

(Lk 12: 51-53)

If one were to read only this verse in Scripture, it would draw one to the conclusion that “unity” is merely some desirable but unreachable ideal toward which all God’s children are called.  That is because “unity for the sake of apparent unity” is a false illusion; however, “unity in Truth” is a gold standard in the spiritual life.  Freely uniting in Truth makes for greater and greater unity and true peace.

The Catholic dictionary defines “unity” as: the condition or state of oneness, especially among persons.  What ultimately unite people are their common beliefs or convictions, and their common desires and affections.  Union is the state of uniting different people.  It may involve the union or agreement of wills and hearts, the union of means to a given end, the union of will with the object it loves, or the supernatural union of the soul with God.

Our exploration and reflection on the Lessons from Our Lord, the Messages of Our Lady of Emmitsburg, and the Words of God the Father will look at 5 aspects of “unity” and its antithesis, “division”:  as (1) individuals with the Triune God, (2) as members of a family, (3) members of a community, (4) members of the Mystical Body of Christ in His Church, and as (5) citizens of our nation and the world.  Where Truth is sought, unity is better realized!

In Union with God

“In a little while the world will no longer see Me,

but you will see Me, because I live and you will live.

On that day you will realize that I am in My Father and

you are in Me and I in you.”

(Jn 14:19-20)

“I pray….so that they may all be one, as You, Father, are in Me and I in You,

that they also may be in Us, that the world may believe that you sent Me.”

(Jn 17: 20-21)

“And this is the Will of the One Who sent me,

that I should not lose anything of what He gave Me,

but that I should raise it on the last day.”

(Jn 6:39)

Quite limited is our ability to comprehend the mysteries of our own being and purpose, of God’s unconditional Love, of union with our Creator, and of eternal life itself.  Who better than Our Lord Himself in His Lessons to the world through Gianna could help us delve into some of these mysteries?

“Do not hunger any longer.  Come to Me, and I will provide you with bread.  It is an invitation to receive My Grace, for all you who desire it shall receive abundantly….I will expiate your sins and raise you up.  I will deliver you to My Father.  (JOM, Vol I, #18, Dec 15, 1988)  I live in my people, and My Father and My Spirit live in My people in oneness with Me!...Love is your key to unified oneness!  Love is your revelation to understanding the Truth of being unified in Oneness in the Trinity.  Love flows from the Father to the Son and to the Spirit, and it is through Love that We flow on to you.  It is through Love that you unite to Us and flow with Us in Our Oneness.” (JOM, Vol I, #39, January 23, 1989)

“This can all be possible when My people allow Me into their hearts.  As My Heart is united to yours, your desire only to serve Me becomes My desire, which is to serve My people.  I desire to bring them to My Father, to love them, to feed them My Body and Blood, to clothe them with My clothes, to offer them My Divinity and My goodness and to invite them to dwell in My Kingdom!  (JOM, Vol I, #46, Feb. 5, 1989)  When you give Me your mind, it is united to Mine.  When you give Me your heart, it is united to Mine.  When you give Me your soul, My Divinity becomes yours!  It is so necessary for all three elements to be united in love to Me and the Trinity.”  (JOM, Vol II, #47, Feb. 21, 1990)

Good individual spiritual direction, for those who desire it, is a luxury not available to most of the faithful.  However, Our Lord has not left us alone, and He offers it to us as we desire to grow in His Love:

“As you join in union with Me, your souls will illuminate.  As you become so absorbed in My Love, all extraordinary experiences of Divine nature become ordinary experiences because of the unity which exists spiritually.  Silently, gently, delicately, and O’ so tenderly is the way I work on the vast majority of souls.  All those who say ‘yes’ and desire Me through their acceptance and openness shall not be denied, but shall be granted the hand of God’s direction.”  (JOM, Vol III, #18, Nov. 15, 1990)

“I tell My people to desire to grow in My holiness by desiring to unite in the Oneness of the Holy Trinity.  To do this you must desire self-denial and the total absorption of My Love and accept to do the Will of God.  Only My Father can take you to this point, for this is a gift from Him.  Only those He desires will unite in the Oneness of the Trinity.  Those He desires are My people, who themselves desire to be.  For when they unite with their brethren in unity, love and compassion, and with the dignity and respect of God, they unite in the Oneness of the Holy Trinity.  (JOM, Vol III, #19, Dec. 17, 1990)  The amount of love they render in charity to their neighbor is the amount of love they have for Me.  Ponder My words and recognize your position with your neighbor.  Evaluate your self-love which consists of conditions, and strive to love as I am Love.”  (JOM, Vol V, #4, Jan. 6, 1995)

God has been quite generous in the gifts He has given us, but oftentimes it seems that those gifts of greatest value are the ones mankind appreciates the least.  Our Lord in His Lessons discusses one of our most important gifts is faith, and the less we value this gift, the more likely will we experience division and hardship.  Faith often requires moving forward without understanding.

“Be grateful for the gifts you have.  Receive more by asking, accepting and having faith in Me. The stronger your faith, the more you will be aware of the gifts given…To have faith is to trust.  Remember, the least questionable doubt weakens your unity with Me in My Power.”  (JOM, Vol I, #34, Jan 12, 1989)

Faith is required of my people….In order for My work to be done through them, it is necessary that they submit totally to me without understanding through human reason….While a search and inquiry of the Truth is tolerable and taught in accordance to the sound doctrine of My Church, caution is requested that they do not search for incomprehensible mysteries which will only deceive them.” (JOM, Vol III, #5, June 4, 1990)

One part of Christianity which has always been the hardest for many to grasp, even the faithful, is the Cross.  The suffering of Our Lord in obedience to the Father and out of Love for our salvation, and the necessity for each of us to embrace our own crosses to share in His suffering in order to accept that redemption as a gift from Him, are a great mysteries.  Our Lord further explains and promises:

“My Love for My people will never cease.  I carry the wounds in My Most Sacred Heart from all the division and wicked ways so many have chosen to pursue.  But in My Love I will never turn from them, for My door is open to all who desire to enter.  (JOM, Vol V, #4, Jan 6, 1995)  I am not asking My people to give Me all of their undivided attention.  I am asking them to return back to God and to give even a little of their time in prayer and thanksgiving to My Father for all the wonders He gives to all people continuously and unconditionally.  If all My people would pray daily even for a small amount of time, there would be peace and unity.”  (JOM, Vol V, #30, Nov 11-12, 1995)

Each of us must first desire and then progress in some sort of prayer life, some form of intimacy with God if we desire union with Him.  As novices, our prayer life may be quite simple and even self-centered, but as we progress spiritually, that prayer life can take us closer to union with God, even while we still live in this world.  Our Lady of Emmitsburg encourages those who desire this form of prayer:

“Many people pray, desiring many things; but you pray and have no desire.  Your desire is only to praise God and be in union with Him.  In doing this, He takes everything from your heart, and your soul is united to Him.  That way, true unity can evolve without stipulations and without obstacles that lend toward human emotion.”  (Private OLOE, Aug. 6, 2008)

It seems that all virtues, especially patience, perseverance, courage, prudence, long-suffering, compassion, and gentleness—all seem to converge in Love and Mercy.  Our Lord makes some of these connections in His Lessons through Gianna:

“Mercy cannot exist where there is division….In order to understand Mercy, you must understand suffering and be forgiving of others.  When you suffer injustice or endure hardship through an awareness of My Presence, this is My grace at work in you.  In suffering, you submerge yourself into My abandonment, and salvation results through My Mercy.  Suffering is most painful, yet the ultimate proof of your faith in God.  Suffering which is interior is the most valuable suffering, because it is the suffering man cannot see with his eyes, only with his heart.  It is union with Me when you see suffering with your heart, and it allows you to be merciful.  It allows you to love through compassion.  When you can unite with your brethren in harmony and compassion, you are uniting in Love and Mercy.  You are in union with Me….Be kind, forgiving and compassionate. Forgive as I have forgiven you, and you will receive My Divine Merciful Love.” (JOM, Vol. IV, #92, Sept. 15, 1992)

We are all human beings.  We all have faults and weaknesses.  We have all made mistakes.  Many of us have periods of our lives that we are not proud of and that we are very much aware of the fact that we were not walking with God.  Many of us have difficulty forgiving ourselves as well as others; but God has compassion on each of us and desires that we have it on others.  Our Lord expands on this point:

“Compassion is the purity of loving to the point at which idiosyncrasies have no meaning.  It is to love someone beyond his human weaknesses and mistakes. To have compassion, you must see Me, your Lord, beyond any obstacle.  To have compassion is to see Me in every person….Do you understand that compassion envelops love to the point where mercy flows?  I healed through My compassion—passion for My God, co-existing with the unity of My brothers….I healed because I saw My Father’s Passion beyond My brother’s sinfulness!  I had compassion for them because I had passion for My Father, Whom I saw dwelling in them, co-existing in His Unity!”  (JOM, Vol I, #37, Jan 18, 1989)

How then in this modern day world, which seems to be moving so far from God, will people become aware and be drawn into the Oneness of God?  Our Lady of Emmitsburg addresses this question:

“It is the Eucharistic Jesus Who draws people into the Oneness of God because Jesus through the Eucharist lives in you; and if He lives in you, He also lives in others.  (Public OLOE, June 15, 2000)  My Son died for all humanity, not a select few; and His death unified the human race as He took on each of your sins and drew each one of you to His Sacred Heart.  Through His one act on Calvary, He taught humanity the Way to peace, unity and harmony; and He invites you to imitate His ways of holiness….This bond of unity will declare you true children of God.  Those who pray together will live together in eternity.”  (Public OLOE, June 22, 2000)

Two thousand years have passed since Our Lord was born, walked this earth, suffered and died for us, and then rose from the dead—all for our salvation, for the salvation of each and every human being ever created.  So Our Lady of Emmitsburg asks:

“You are all of the same Spirit, so why is there division?  Those who do not want to know the Truth, are still loved by God.  But it is written, and my Son Himself said, ‘Woe to you who choose to scandalize those who are chosen.  Woe to you who try to harm those who are my beloved chosen.’  It would be better to place a millstone around your neck than to go against one of my Son’s chosen.” (Mt 18:6).   (Private OLOE, July 10, 2008)

“Do not separate yourself or distance yourself from Him, for He is your God.  God the Father, God the Son, my Son, & God the Holy Spirit, my Spouse, have come to dwell within you so that all of you will be all of Us.  Then there will be no division, only One of the same Heart and Soul.  (Private OLOE, Dec 10, 2007)  Join in oneness and unity; and at all costs, live His Truth.”  (Private OLOE, Feb. 9, 2008)

In a powerful and inspiring Lesson on “Mercy” which ends Volume IV of the I am your Jesus of Mercy series, Our Lord confirms:

“It is not that you have loved that My Father sent Me as an offering for your sins, but it is because My Father loved you and is Love.  I am One with the Father.  Because of Him, therefore I am.  Nothing is sweeter than Love because Love proceeds from the Father and cannot rest but in Him.”

At the end of that Lesson, Our Lord directed Gianna to read and transcribe the following verse, and then He provided the ending:

(1 Cor, 13:1-8)

If I speak with human and angelic tongues….

If I have the gift of prophecy…

If I have faith great enough to move mountains…

If I give everything I have to feed the poor…

If I hand over my body to be burned, but have not Love, I am    nothing.

Love is patient, kind, not jealous….

Love is never rude or self seeking….

Love does not rejoice in what is wrong, but rejoices with the  Truth….

Love never fails.  Prophecies will cease, tongues will be silent,

knowledge will pass away.

“I will never pass away, because I am Love;

and you will live in Me always if you love,

for I am Love and Mercy!”

(JOM, Vol IV, #92, Sept. 15, 1992)

Unity and the Family

“Where are my mother and my brothers?”

And looking around at those seated in the circle He said,

“Here are my mother and my brothers.

For whoever does the Will of My Father is my brother and sister and mother.”

 (Mk 3: 33-35)

“Be subordinate to one another out of reverence for Christ….

As Church is subordinate to Christ,

so wives should be subordinate to their husbands in everything.

Husband, love your wives, even as Christ loved the Church…”

(Eph 5: 21-25)

“If you are married, then be obedient to each other as spouses in the Sacrament of Marriage and teach your children to love and follow the way of Truth outlined in my Son’s Word in the Gospel….Be honest and treat others with dignity.  Help the poor and the elderly and the young….Protect my unborn through love and unity….Peace cannot exist if there is no change in moral values and in unity.”  (Public OLOE, March 17, 1994)

In Christ’s own words, familial relationships are defined as they relate to being in union with God’s Will, and the marriage relationship is likened to the relationship between Christ and His Church.  However, when Our Lady of Emmitsburg speaks to Gianna about today’s families, she paints a scene which certainly includes troubling details:

“There are so many broken families who are in need of love and gentle care.  (Public OLOE, January 7, 1999)  The society in which you live has lent itself to a fast-paced, ‘me-first’ lifestyle.  There is no quick fix for what took years to destroy, namely the family bond, morality, peace, simplicity, and the treasures of prayer, sharing, love and unity.  (Public OLOE, Jan. 28, 1999)  There are so many people in the world who are suffering, people who are dying and who are afraid of pain, of death itself, and of the lack of knowledge of where their souls will rest.  There are families divided, children not praying, war, desolation, natural disasters, corruption and crime.  There are even Christian people who seem so righteous in different ways, but who spread lies, slander and calumny, and ruin others’ reputations.”  (Private OLOE, July 10, 2007)

The prescribed remedy for this disease in the family first and primarily involves prayer.  Prayer is the lifeblood of the family, and a family without a prayer life places itself in tremendous jeopardy.  Our Lady of Emmitsburg continually encourages her children:

“What I desire you to pray for is unity, for peace of mind, heart and soul, peace within the family and peace in the world.  (Private OLOE July 10, 2007) Pray in your families.  Join together and pray together.  Those who pray together in the family as partners of love will march triumphantly into the era of peace.  Whether you are two or twenty, pray together in your families.”  (Public OLOE, March 9, 2000)

Our Lady speaks of “this holy place,” namely the Center of her Immaculate Heart in Emmitsburg, and she notes that this family relationship extends out from the immediate family unit to all families, to the entire family of God.

“This holy place is for all people and cannot remain for you and your families alone.  My Son gave of Himself for you, for your families and for every person in the world.  You must also give of yourself, not only for your families but also for all the families of God and every person whom my Son brings in your path.  (Public OLOE, April 13, 2000) You do not understand the great gift you have from God when He gives you the gift of life.  The world would cease to exist, and all society would break down without the family unit.”  (Public OLOE, Oct. 7, 2007)

Our Lady points out that just as the parents are so important to the fruitfulness of family life and unity, so too are the children; and the value of children who pray cannot be overemphasized:

“Unity is what is necessary.  Children need to be loved, not abandoned.  Truly, it is easier to love than to hate, to give than to destroy, and to be selfless than to be selfish.  (Public OLOE, Oct. 7, 2007) However, the family unit is disintegrating….People of the same gender are joining in marriage.  This is not God’s desire….Children today are facing tremendous confusion and destructive circumstances from being surrounded by this horrible abomination from sexuality of the same gender.  This is not God’s desire. The Sacrament of God’s Love in marriage is for man and woman.  The fruit of this love is to bear children and to bring them up with good morals.  Look to the Holy Family as your example.”  (Public OLOE, May 23, 1996)

“When children pray and have faith, it can change the world. With all of its importance, faith alone can change the world….Few people truly utilize this gift.  To trust with all your heart and to believe in faith can change the world.  It can heal.  Yet, when you do not utilize the gift of faith, it can also destroy.  But to be in union with God, to be one with Him, you must trust and live God’s gift of faith.”  (Private OLOE, Aug, 23, 2008)

The family, just as all social entities, is made up of individuals who have faults, who are not perfect.  As such, there can never be unity, harmony and true peace without forgiveness.  Our Lady of Emmitsburg commends those families who recognize this:

“You are a good family, loving and holy.  So many families do not pray.  But even in your differences, you always seem to come back to the Truth in prayer, united in love, willing to try again and to move forward.  Life as you know it will always have obstacles.  You will have weaknesses.  The greatest gift of love you can give is one of acceptance and forgiveness.  Remember, no love—humanly speaking—will ever surpass the love of the family.”  (Private OLOE, May 12, 2008)

This aspect of forgiveness is the one that is often the most needed as well as the most lacking in so many family situations.  It is a lifelong journey to be able to develop and maintain a forgiving heart.  Our Lady of Emmitsburg shares:

“Forgive them as God has forgiven you.  If you cannot forgive those who have hurt you, then it will be most difficult for you to forgive yourself when you meet your Creator face to face.  (Public OLOE, March 11, 2007) In all His suffering, in all His humiliation, and through all His pain, He could forgive.  You are also invited and asked to forgive.  What good would any of your actions be if you cannot love and forgive?  (Public OLOE, May 6, 2007)  You must forgive, for the Truth will always surface.”  (Public OLOE, April 2, 2007)

Our Lord in His Lessons to the world through Gianna reminds all families:

“What you see on the surface may not be the truth behind their incentives.  Know what you see is not what My Father sees.  If you do not judge others for what they do to you, then God’s goodness can only dwell in your heart with forgiveness and mercy.”  (JOM, Vol III, #15, September 30, 1990)

In fact we may also underestimate the value of this gift of being able to forgive others, for Our Lady of Emmitsburg highly values this gift.  It is a gift that is essential for unity in all areas: the family, the community, the Church and the world at large:

“The greatest gift you have, with which you have been graced from above by God the Father, is that you have learned that when someone has harmed you, you go to the Foot of the Cross and you see my arms outstretched before God the Father imploring His Mercy; and you too ask for their forgiveness, ‘for they do not know what they do.’  (Private OLOE, Aug. 27, 2005)

God’s gift of “life” is the building block of the family unit.  It is in celebrating this gift of life that humanity comes to truly value the family.

“You do not realize the great gift of life….  Be kind, be merciful and be joyful.  Help those who are less fortunate….If all the mothers and fathers of the world understood the Truth, the reality of this gift of the Holy Spirit, all would be elated and share it with the conviction of ‘How awesome God is!’ in His Being, in His Spirit, in His holiness, and in your role as mother and as father.  There can be no life with one and not the other.  The family, how precious, how glorious!”  (Private OLOE, June 1, 2008)

Today’s modern world has left many people in settings which would not meet the criteria of a traditional family, yet all are God’s children and are loved equally without favoritism.  All desire to love and need to be loved; however for peace and unity to exist, these need to be carried out within God’s Divine Will.  There He will provide for everyone the proper associations and relationships, both interpersonal and spiritual, that give Him glory and offer those elements of love, unity and peace which family life was designed by God Himself to provide.  Our Lady rejoices:

“How wonderful it is for you to know that God gives every opportunity for all people to join as a family, regardless of opinions, but to join in love and respect and to live in peace.  How wonderful it is that you join in prayer for not only yourselves, but for those in need!  (Private OLOE, Aug 14, 2008)  I am grateful for the love you have within your family.  This is a sign for all the world to see, that all families should unite in love and in unity.”  (Private OLOE, Jan. 7, 2006)

Unity and the Community

Philip to Nathanael: “Can anything good come from Nazareth?”

Nathanael to Philip:  “Come and see!”

(Jn 1:46)

There may have been times throughout history where human beings could live and sometimes be relatively “self-sufficient.”  However, for most of human history individual men and women as well as families have formed communities.  Certainly with the highly industrialized nature and interdependence of so many of man’s necessities in today’s modern era, life outside of a community would be nearly impossible for most people.

In His Lessons through Gianna to the world, Our Lord states:

“The human needs the love of community and the touch of each other.  Man was not created to live alone, but in unity.  (JOM, Vol IV, #20, June 27, 1992)  You are gathered to be in community to love and to console one another in times of need and care.”  (JOM, Vol IV, #23, July 4, 1992)

Our Lady of Emmitsburg explains the importance of community and the selflessness needed to make it fruitful:

“I invite you to persevere and to all join together in Love, because it is as a community that you make the difference, not as one but as many.  It is important that all people join together and work together and love one another.  There is enough hardship, slander and malice from other sources of evil who would desire and be pleased to see all the good works that you do for my Son’s greater glory to come to an end.  What stops this is when people join together in prayer and in unity.  It is then that the good works of Love which flow through you make the difference in changing bad to good.”  (Private OLOE, Oct, 8, 2005)

Importantly, Our Lady has spoken much over the years about what has led to the lack or loss of unity at the local community level.  As Our Lady began to form her army of little communities around the world, and in particular, her community here in Emmitsburg, the Center of her Immaculate Heart, she early on warned of those forces working against her to discredit her presence:

“There are evil forces trying to make you feel inferior and tempt you with unworthy feelings.  The evil one would like to confuse you and cause division among you in the most trivial situations in order that you would not focus on God’s Mercy and Love. (Public OLOE, Sept. 28, 1995)  If the small-scaled situations you are met with today can distract you and disrupt your peace, then what will happen when you are met with direct attacks from My adversary in times to come?  Little children, you must silence scandals and gossiping infecting your communities now or you will not be able to be a genuine disciple of Love.”  (Public OLOE, April 30, 1998)

In the spring of 2000, Our Lady of Emmitsburg in a very unique and direct way spoke particularly to those in the community of Emmitsburg.  Up until this time, many appreciated her messages as beneficial and consistent with sound personal spiritual formation; however, at this time her messages clearly became more challenging, linking this present day community of Emmitsburg and its residents with some of it predecessors from a past era:

“This is a community which rises together in hardships and joins in helping one another as recorded throughout history when sisterhood and brotherhood laid the foundation of love.  This community will continue to rise together and assist in helping all the many people who will come to this, My Center of My Immaculate Heart, because they are humble, simple loving children of God.  (Public OLOE, March 23, 2000)  You too, little ones, who live in this community, are filled with this same commitment of love and mercy as your ancestors.  You are to be the signs of my Son’s innocence, generosity and simplicity.”  (Public OLOE, April 6, 2000)

“God will bless all of you and give you the grace to share the gift of kindness with others….This is a great teaching from the Saints who approached the Throne of God asking for this great gift and blessing from Heaven to be bestowed upon your community as my plan unfolds….Thank the two instrumental Saints of Love, St. Vincent DePaul and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.  Thank the Saints which followed in their footsteps and their ancestors down through your bloodlines along with the entire Communion of Saints for their faith and trust in God.”  (Public OLOE, April 27, 2000)

In a motherly warning, however, Our Lady recognized and shared with her children that there would be resistance:

“Keep your hearts open to those who come here seeking God’s Mercy, and God will keep His ear open to your petitions….The more you give, the more will overflow onto your families.  The more you keep for yourselves, the more you will lose, because God will not allow you to keep what you have refused to others…I am sorry to say, I cannot leave this place, as some of you desire I would, because My Son has asked me to come here; and I bow in obedience to His Will at all costs.”  (Public OLOE, March 31, 2000)

Then later in the summer of 2000, as local tensions seemed to be rising, Our Lady made a comforting, yet challenging analogy:

“When my Son walked the earth, He spoke oftentimes of His Passion; yet few believed that their Savior would be one who would suffer.  It is the same today.  You have different expectations of Him, just as His Apostles did, who thought they knew what the Messiah would be like….You cannot give my Son glory if you speak of His Love and suffering with your lips; and if at the same time, your hearts do not want His ways to infringe upon your lives…God desires you to live in unity without fear, but oftentimes you pull back from community because of fear in order to protect yourselves from intruders….There are two ways to live:  a way of love or a way of fear….You are invited to enter into community with Him and one another, but He will not coerce you.”  (Public OLOE, July 27, 2000)

After being shunned by Church authorities and some local residents, Our Lady of Emmitsburg, bowing out of respect and at her own choice, remained publicly silent for two years, although still appearing privately to Gianna.  Then as world tensions grew after the tragic bombing on Sept. 11, 2001, she once again began speaking to the world:

“Know that I need you to join in unity for there is surely a battle among all the peoples of this world, not only those of human nature, but also those spiritual, a battle of good and evil.  (Private OLOE, Nov. 2, 20002)  No longer do you have to remain silent.  You can move valiantly forward and ahead, speaking when you have to speak, not being afraid to speak the Word of God, not being afraid of who you are in your companionship and relationship and of the blessings that you have received from Heaven….The last few years you have been silent and obedient.  Now you are obedient, yes indeed, but silence is not so necessary because you have the Light of Christ in you and with this virtue of holiness you can shine forth.”  (Private OLOE, Jan. 1, 2003)

Over the 14 years preceding 2003, many had heard and listened to and benefited from Our Lady’s words of help and encouragement through Gianna both in Scottsdale, Arizona, and in Emmitsburg; but through Church actions based on what many have demonstrated were miscommunication, misinformation and misrepresentation of the Truth, many were left with much fear and confusion.  Indeed, many in positions of authority did not avail themselves of the easy access to become properly informed.  To those both locally and in her community at large, Our Lady of Emmitsburg spoke through Gianna in 2003:

“Many of you have taken my words lightly.  Many of you have not believed in my words.  Many of you were frightened, and so you scattered and ran away.… I told you that it was so necessary for you to focus on my Son…Because you did not focus on these words and because of your fear, you spread to so many people the fallacy that my words were not true.”

“My Center is here (Emmitsburg, MD).  This is my Center of my most Immaculate Heart.  It cannot be any other place, because I have chosen this place.  I chose this place because first my Son chose it, and here He is.  Where He is, I am too.  Where I am and where He is, We invite you to join Us in the blessedness of the Holy Trinity.” (Private OLOE, Feb, 2003)

Also somewhat unique to Emmitsburg is what began in 1994 as Our Lord’s Mission of Mercy, a local and regional a non-profit, free healthcare ministry whose mission statement is to ‘restore dignity, healing through Love.’ However, nationally and worldwide, Mission of Mercy has a much broader spiritual mission.  About Mission of Mercy Our Lady of Emmitsburg has said:

“This is why my Son’s Mission of Mercy is both all of His and so community oriented for all the peoples in the world, so that they might reach out and help one another.  What a great gift that you give to my Son when you help one another, unconditionally and selflessly, giving until it hurts as He gave to you.  A most beautiful gift indeed!  (Private OLOE, October 7, 2005)  “But it is true that evil would like to divide the works and the good fruits for the poor.  Because of resentment and jealousy, and because there are very few followers and so many desiring to be leaders, there is division under this entire umbrella.  This umbrella links the east to the west, the north to the south.  There is not only just one mission, but many missions, because so many people are angry, and people themselves desire to be loved.”  (Private OLOE, April 24, 2003)

Not only many of the faithful, but even Gianna herself would sometimes ask, “Why then is there so much division?”  And Our Lady would  answer:

“Division is caused by Satan himself; and wherever I have been throughout history, Satan has tried to cause division….But the lack of peace in many of my children, the lack of peace within your communities and within the world stems also from the sin style='font-size:14.0pt'>  (Public OLOE, March, 13, 2003)

“God desires all people to know my Center, to know they are loved and are safe here.  Make no mistake about it:  Out of all the places, out of all my appearances, there is no place that is the Center of my most Immaculate Heart.  Thus, the greater the importance, oftentimes the greater the division, until the time comes when all people will know that I am here, that I am their real Mother, and that I am here for them.”  (Private OLOE, April 1, 2003)

In recent years, Our Lady of Emmitsburg draws a distinction between “unity” and “comradery” and expressly thanks those who have remained loyal to her cause here in Emmitsburg:

“I thank you not only for your comradery and unity in prayer, but for your friendship and your love of my Son.  All your works give Him glory and honor; but what gives my Son the greatest glory is when people join together, not only to pray, but united in friendship, happiness and jovial times, sharing the goodness, the freedom and the victory of God.”…Thank you, little ones, for being the little seeds of joy in my Heart which have grown to be the tremendous branches that feed so many in the world with God’s Truth.”  (Private OLOE, Oct. 18, 2004)

Very important in Our Lady’s instructions through Gianna over the years is how to react to those who may have walked away, may have actually caused harm and spread division, but then may desire to return.

“These are times of tremendous division when people choose to walk away from my Son and from those who reach out to them.  Often those who know they have done wrong, even if you reach out to them, may in their embarrassment choose not to acknowledge or to forgive.  But the very act of your reaching out to them means more to God the Father than did their sin itself.”  (Private OLOE, March 8, 2004)

“So allow your arms to enfold around all here at the Center of my Immaculate Heart.  Extend them and you will see, as you open up your arms, the circle will encompass, enclose and comfort everyone as if you are the clothes draping my Newborn Infant, keeping Him warm.  You can do it, and I am with you.”  (Private OLOE, Jan 3, 2006)

But what about all those who claim that Gianna is a fraud and Our Lady of Emmitsburg is just a fantasy of someone’s imagination?  Our Lady reassures all of her children:

“Everything that has been prophesied to you from both my Son and myself is so real!  Yet, in the time you live, with so many other things approaching you from different directions, it is difficult to see this.  But all that I have spoken is now unfolding.  (Private OLOE, Oct 31, 2005)  My purpose here is to bring all children to God, especially here in this country….I desire all children to know about this precious moment that they have with me and my Son.  But it is not for just a single moment, not for just a passing era.  It is for eternity, for We are not leaving!  Many shall come and go, but We will stay!”  (Private OLOE, April 8, 2006)

How much longer?

“It will not be much longer before this world will know the Truth, and those enemies of yours will know the Truth also.  It is God’s desire for all to unite and to live in Peace, because there are so many other issues that need to be tended to.  My Son does not want division.  He wants a merciful heart and unity.” (Private OLOE, March 26, 2006)

Many feel the world is about to change; life as we know it in this modern world is about to change.  God the Father Himself in His “Words” to the world through Gianna puts this into perspective:

“It is far better for you to live today as if it is your last.  It is far better for you to give of yourself as if it is your only opportunity.…It is far better for all of you to join together as a community in love and to work together in the fruition of My Holy Will.  (GTF, Jan. 8, 2007)  Love those around you….Treasure who you are.   For without them, it will be hard to survive, since no one else will be looking after you.”  (GTF, June 21, 2009)

“Here are My mother and brothers.

For, whoever does the will of My heavenly Father,

is My brother and sister and mother.”
